More than twenty years of experience in the construction industry gives me the ability to quickly understand the key factual and legal issues involved in complex matters and to help parties resolve disputes quickly and efficiently.

After earning a Master of Science in Construction Management from Stanford University, I worked as an engineer with a multi-national Japanese construction company on large-scale infrastructure projects in the Western United States. I supervised tunnel construction, estimated work for competitive bidding, developed project schedules, and prepared change orders and claims.

Since 1995 I have provided legal representation to contractors, subcontracts, suppliers, owners, developers, and design professionals in a wide variety of matters touching on all aspects of the development, design, and construction processes. I have helped clients resolve construction contract disputes, construction defect cases, lien foreclosure actions, asbestos personal injury cases, matters involving allegations of design professional negligence, and insurance coverage issues.

  • Won summary judgment on behalf of supplier of pre-cast concrete foundation piles and the parent cement manufacturing company in case where the building’s major commercial office tenant sued for damages after the foundation failed and the building was condemned.

  • Defended subcontractor in construction defect litigation involving warehouse conversion into loft condominiums. Implemented litigation strategy that resulted in settlement at 1/25th of the amount demanded by general contractor who had moved for entry of default before client retained me.

  • Defended national real estate developer in $100 million taxpayer challenge to land acquisition and development contract with a municipality. Acquired case after plaintiff had successfully appealed trail court’s grant of prior counsel’s demurrer. Plaintiff agreed to a de-minimis settlement after the filing of summary judgment motion.

  • Successfully tendered numerous claims for insurance coverage on behalf of design professionals, real estate owners, contractors, and construction material suppliers who had been sued.
